Hiring a caterer for your wedding? Here are a few things you might need to consider.

Hiring A Wedding Caterer; Everything you need to know

So you’ve found your dream wedding venue & you need to bring in caterers or you have decided to have a marquee wedding – Whatever your reasons for needing a caterer we’re here to explain what it entails & to answer some FAQs about planning your Wedding Catering

1. Does my venue not just do the catering for me?

Yes & No… A lot of venues do have their own kitchen & service staff but some venues, especially country houses are not purpose built event spaces, but they do have kitchen facilities that can be used.

If you are having a marquee wedding then you have a blank canvases waiting to be transformed. But this will require some sort of catering marquee, the size this & the equipment needed will dependent on the number of guests you have & the menu you choose.

But don’t stress about this, your caterer will guide you on this.

2. So how do I go about booking a Wedding Caterer?

Booking a caterer for your wedding should be a straight forward & exciting process – provided you choose an experienced one.

At the start an informal & no pressure conversation from your caterer to get an idea of who you are, what you like and don’t like. This could be through email or over the phone.

We like to meet in person to get a feel for who are clients are & what they are really looking for, rather than guesswork. Be up front about your budget, this will point the caterer in the right direction & save you time.

Then a proposal will be created with menus and costs for you to look over.

3.    How expensive is it to build a catering marquee?

Every menu is completely bespoke & each piece of catering equipment would have to be hired in for your specific menu which a lot of people don’t realise.

Cost is also very dependent on the menus itself – the number or courses, the equipment onsite, where it is etc. So don’t expect an on the spot exact figure as this isn’t realistic. But your caterer should be able to give you a rough idea from early on.

 4.    How should I choose my menus?

It is entirely up to you what the food is on the day, your caterer is there is assist you along the way. But do keep in mind when catering for many people it is always best to keep it somewhat mainstream in order suit everyone’s taste.

Also keep in mind the facilities that the caterers will have. Be realistic; you want to set both yourself & the caterer up for success on your Wedding day.

 5.    Do I really need canapés & evening food?

Short answer YES! It’s a long day… from ceremony, to venue, then dinner, drinking & dancing. Your guests will in your company for anywhere between 10 to 12+ hours. Food is only part of your Wedding day, but it’s not the part you want people focusing on because they are hungry.

 6.    Do caterers provide service staff too?

An experienced caterer will be able to provide you with services staff (but check with your venue are they providing service as part of your package) as they will know what they need & how many they need to execute your menu.
